June 3 ending in Springfield, IL
69 miles for me. 2220 of uphill and 2330 of down. Some of the hills were still pretty long. In fact the hill right after crossing the Illinois River did me in. I had just hooked on with the really big group. Soon as that hill started, I was done. I was tired coming into the day. Then mainly headwinds to crosswinds most of the way. Going up a highway exit ramp into the wind at 6 mph sucked. I couldn't imagine 37 more miles so I stopped at the second rest stop, and glad to be there. I rode the van to the hotel.
Here is the group I couldn't hang with up that biggest hill of the dayThat white thing is a barge coming around a bend in the river
Cicada info. They are noisy in certain spots, quite a few dead ones on the pavement. Slow fliers, almost like tiny birds, you can see them coming.
I ride with the zipper on my jersey pulled way down alot, trying to get airflow to cool off. Thus far I have not sucked any cicadas in to my jersey.... Yet ....... If/when I do it'll sure get my attention tho I'll bet!
Here's a couple pictures of yours truly today. Not real great, just like I felt..
Jill went through weather delay, mechanical plane issues, plane had to add fuel so it could fly around the storms. Missed connection at O'Hare by 15 minutes. Got last flight to Springfield, but had to again wait as that plane had to be thoroughly deep cleaned inside before they let anyone board. Probably don't want to know why. Jill said the plane didn't smell though...
