May 6, 2024- to Indio
Well .... Ended up with a 90 mile day. A very long day . Tons of stoplights, on a school day where we went past several schools right at drop off time. Still, made good time. First rest stop at 16, and onward. Went past huge massive feed lots, thousands and thousands of cattle. Then hit a 5 mile steady climb at between 6 and 7 mph. That took nearly an hour. Wow, never seen that before. And that's not even mountains?! Rest again at mile 38. Everyone had to be together for our police escort for 2 miles through the (cannot remember) Indian reservation. No outside cars allowed. No picture taking. It was a long wait for last person to get there as flat tires were beginning. Okay. Cruising along, three of us decided to have a late luncheon in Palm springs at the blue donkey 🐴. That killed an hour. 28 miles to finish, and I started fading. Thankfully Rich from St Paul basically pulled me in to the hotel at 5:45. We leave each AM at 7:30. Was 85 degrees at that time. In retrospect, never should have stopped in palm springs. (A beautiful downtown by the way) Even though the computer says we descended 3635 and gained 2200, it felt like a lot of the 2200 came at one time.
