May 26 to McPherson, KS
Had a threat of rain, but stayed dry. Probably the fastest day yet. 64 miles, 850 feet up, 1200 feet down. No wind blasting in our ears like the last 2 days. Had a nice quartering following tailwind probably 8-10 mph. Really ripped along nicely. Besides, I was meeting Jill at the hotel. She was lucky to land in Wichita last night around 8, just minutes before torrential wind and rain hit. She had to go out in that weather to catch the hotel 🏨 shuttle. I guess she looked like a drowned rat 🐁 when she got to the hotel!
Here are some shots of the scenery from Kansas today. It struck me that everywhere everything looked so green. A few days ago, no green. Also, there are actually a fair amount of trees to be seen too
Still pretty flat although the back half of the ride we got into some long rolling hills.
Oh! Hey! Got stopped by county sheriff this AM. 5 minutes after starting out, Rich slowly rolled through a red light, and I was right behind him. Next light we both did it again. (Sunday AM zero traffic, dead streets). Anyhow, Jeff C was behind us and rolled through a red light and HE was pulled over, sirens and all . The officer was very nice, and takes biking seriously as his father was hit and killed while riding a bike....... We thanked him for his concern, apologized, and appreciate his concern. A good reminder.....
Most of the group was at rest stop at the same time
Very cool courthouse a block from rest stop Couple more shots from the roadSteve Harvey took my picture here, and below is shot of Steve's bike A pretty darn nice day. I just want to hang out with Jill all day tomorrow, but can't..... Last day of 8 days of biking in a row , then 1 day off. And only 1 day! But it sure will be nice though!!!!!!
