May 31 to Chillicothe, MO

Hills and headwinds.  87 miles, 4400 feet going uphill (what you really pay attention to) and 4600 feet going down, which you don't notice.   Today was like an EKG.    Constant up and down. Started the day at 7.   Within 2 minutes it started to sprinkle, then rain.  Rained for first 40 minutes, then dry the rest of the day.  At mile 31 we all regrouped for a parade to the historic society.   That group puts on lemonade, PBJ sandwiches, and cinnamon rolls every year for our group. Morning rain   Some of me  A pretty the hard day.   Difficult to explain the constant hills.   Rollers, but you could never make it up the next one without a lot of gear shifting. Random shot  This is what today was

After 7 days in Kansas, crossed the Missouri River into Missouri . A last couple looks at Kansas countryside. But before I move on, one of the cooler things we've gone past. Here's a shot of Alan walking his bike up the hill to get detailed pictures. Alan took these pictures. Finally here a a couple shots of me courtesy of Steve  And here's a great picture of Odie      Ended at 85 miles today, we are now slightly past half way distance and riding day wise.   2900 feet of f uphill today vs 2810 of down. Stopped at McDonald's with 9 miles to goe, I  was kind of shot.    Hung there for half hour then forged on to the hotel 🏨.   Sheesh, I swear 1/3 of all the uphill was in the last 9 miles in St Joseph!   Short, but steep, and many hills!   Not a lot of fun.  Speaking of fun.   Tomorrow almost for certain will be 87+ miles in the 🌧️ ☔

Really a pretty much perfect day.   Got a kiss from Jill to get out the door.   68 miles, wind sometimes gently helped and sometimes gently hindered, but couldn't ask for anything better.   Beautiful part of the country.   If I didn't know, could easily be in MN or in WI.  GENTLY curving great roads, some hills but nothing steep.  2450 of elevation gained vs 2700 of down. Saw buffalo, and lots of nice scenery. Hit a cafe in the pretty much middle of nowhere for pie and ice cream.  A. Crossroads tradition. Do to snafu with the hotel, had to wait 2 1/2 hours for room.   No food to eat nearby.   At 6, Greg and I had pizza delivered from godfather's pizza.   Hit the spot.   Since breakfast is at 6:30 tomorrow and we leave at 7, I'll be eating cold pizza for breakfast!    Not being able to eat a relaxed breakfast really does suck, when one considers that there is no real lunch eith...

Rest day update

Nice day.  Jill was here so slept in.   Best nights sleep in awhile.   Took her to Braun's.   Kind of like Culver's.   Everyone on tour seems to really like the place.   After walking out of "Fall Guy" movie before it was over, we chatted with a few riders then hit IHOP for a late supper.   Got a new rear wheel put on my bike.   It's one of those noisy ones that goes clickety click.   I hate those.  Mine was quiet.   The old hub was worn, and could not get parts 😞.   Off for another day in Kansas tomorrow!

Jill joined me yesterday and was out on the road 🛣️ today!.   She passed me and stopped. It was a nice day.   Wind cooperated for the most part, and especially the last 20 miles into town, thank God,as I was ready to be done.   82 miles today, 9 days of biking in a row.   668 miles in 9 days.   Don't remember, but some of those early days of the 9 must have been climbing.   Anyway , lately the wind 🌬️ direction has been the super important number to me, not elevation gain. Good morning Kansas! A few more shots.   Kansas really has been a pretty and very green! state the last few days. It struck me this morning how there is something wrong when you go to bed when it's still light out, and get up when it's still 🌑!    Does that seem right?  Bed at 8, alarm at 5.   Ouch. Two nicely spaced rest stops today, 30 and 62.   I missed the turn to first one, but corrected and got there. St...
